Watch 'Model Congress' on MSG Varsity

Watch 'Model Congress' on MSG Varsity
-- Show premieres Sunday May 16 at 8PM on MSG Channel 14

As part of an ongoing relationship with Cablevision, 'Model Congress' follows the students that attended Rutgers Model Congress 2010 as they prepare and deliberate during the conference.. To get a more in-depth view of what happens during a Model Congress conference, the show will follow six individual students as they participate in their various committees.

"'Model Congress' will give outsiders a chance to see what happends during our conferences," said IDIA Conference Advisor Adam Gold. "At a time when politics has become so heated and divisive, it is critical to bring young people together to talk about the issues in a professional and informed manner, and RMC does just that. More than 500 students came together, not to get lost in political parties, sound bites, and political posturing, but to talk about critical issues in America. When you watch the show, you will see that they have succeeded."

'Model Congress' is the second in a series of shows produced by MSG Varsity highlighting programs sponsosred by the Institute for Domestic & International Affairs. The goal of the shows is to give those who are unable to attend the conferences the opportunity to see just what happens during these weekends. Moreover, the shows are designed to develop interest in both Model United Nations and Model Congress programs, so that even more students have the chance to get involved.

"Our partnership with MSG Varsity could not have come at a better time," said IDIA Executive Director Michael Hinchliffe. "As school budgets continue to be under pressure, a program like this will show just how valuable Model Congress and Model United Nations clubs and programs are to schools. We are confident that parents, teachers, and administrators will see the academic opportunities that these conferences present, and will continue to support these clubs in the schools. While classroom learning is critical, progrmas like Model Congress and Model United Nations are crucial supplements to formal education, and help students to develop critical life skills like conflict resolution, public speaking, information synthesis, and compromise."

'Model Congress' will premiere on Sunday May 16 at 8PM, on Cablevision Channel 14, and will continue for four episodes. Interested individuals without access to Cablevision can request copies of the show through our Contact Us page.
