Why Attend PhilMUN?
As the world continues to become more complex and interrelated, there is a specific need for programming that offers students an opportunity to learn about important global issues. The Model United Nations program complements classroom education techniques by immersing students in dialogue with their peers. While Social Studies and history curriculum traditionally focuses on a Western or American perspective on global affairs, Philadelphia Model United Nations programs offer a more balanced world-view to all participants.
Philadelphia Model United Nations goes beyond the typical Model United Nations experience by focusing both not only on a particular issue or region, but also on the consequences of action. The world does not operate in a vacuum and important decisions have ramifications, both intended and unintended, that inevitably result. PhilMUN will offer students a chance not only to address important problems, but will further challenge them to look at the potential results of their actions.
In addition to our commitment to overall educational growth, PhilMUN seeks to create an enjoyable environment in which students are empowered to direct their own path of learning. The staff of each Philadelphia Model United Nations conference is committed to providing individual attention to each conference participant.
Located in the heart of Philadelphia, PhilMUN also provides access to the region's historical and cultural sights. The conference schedule gives participants the opportunity to visit Independence Hall to learn about the genesis of American democracy; the Constitution Center to experience how this precious document was conceived; and the South Street neighborhood for a taste of Philadelphia, among other great places!
